Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced in July 2008 that it had awarded five-year Class II licences to five companies with the stipulation that they were to become MVNOs. The winners were Connect Arabia (bidding on behalf of pan-regional reseller FRiENDi Mobile), Injaz International, Kalam Telecommunications, Majan Telecom (Renna) and Mazoon Mobile and according to the report, published by the Telecommunications Authority in Oman, by June 2010 Mobile Resellers; Since their launch there subscriber base has been growing steadily raising the base from 93,310 in third quarter 2009 to 351,597 subscribers by second quarter 2010, which is 17% increase compared to the first quarter 2010. Traditional MNO’s reported that 180,266 subscribers were added to their network during the second quarter of 2010 which is an increase of 4.3% over the past quarter. The penetration rate of mobile subscribers was 153% by June 2010, achieving 4.3% growth rate from first quarter. Mobile prepaid service indicated continuous growth achieving 3,995,945 subscribers with a quarterly average growth of 6%Mobile and post paid subscribers are also moving in the same track, achieving growth rate of 7.7% during the second quarter 2010. Mazoon Mobile
Launched in November 2009 with a New concept (for Oman) to the market creative ideas and promotions with the start of the introduction of of ‘One Minute on You, One minute on Us’. Customers wanting to communicate with their families abroad can select up to two international numbers and receive up to 25 per cent discount on those numbers.
