QXL Poland
The owner of the Polish auction portal Allegro.pl signed a contract with Polkomtel, a mobile telephony operator to launch an MVNO. In March 2008, Naspers acquired Tradus (formerly QXL and listed on the London Stock Exchange), which provides an online auction platform and internet portals in Eastern Europe. The company owns Allegro.pl, which is the leading online auction site in Poland. At £946 million, this acquisition represents Naspers’ largest acquisition to date.

Carrefour (MoVa)
French hypermarkets group Carrefour has launched its MVNO service, Carrefour Mova. Mova means ‘speak’, ‘speech’ or ‘talk’ in Polish. Choosing it as a lock-up with the word Carrefour made the product’s function very clear while giving the brand an attractive, fresh, contemporary feel. Massive in-store presence, exceptional product placement, a clear pricing proposition and deep integration with the retail experience made for a very strong market entry. As in Italy, all shoppers in Carrefour stores in Poland are rewarded with free minutes – every 10 złotys spent earns one free minute of Mova airtime. The reload code for free minutes is printed on each cash slip, with the number of free minutes automatically calculated from the total receipt. Moreover, Polish shoppers can exchange loyalty points for Carrefour Mova minutes. Carrefour Visa clients are also eligible for special offers and promotions. Carrefour Mova runs on Effortel’s technology platform connected to the Polkomtel network which boasts the best coverage and network quality in Poland.

Crowley Data Poland an internet and fixed-line telephony services provider, launched operations as an MVNO and is aimed mainly at business clients. Crowley is introducing four tariff plans: TeleMobile Zero, without subscription, and TeleMobile 35, 70 and 120 with monthly subscriptions costing PLN 35, PLN 70 and PLN 120 respectively. Crowley operates on the telecom market as a service provider for companies and institutions including NIK (the National Audit Chamber), NFZ (the National Health Fund), TVP (Polish state television), and IPN (the Institute of National Remembrance). The company plans to defend its leading position on the market of tailor-made offers for corporate clients.

Cyfrowy Polsat
Cyfrowy Polsat, a digital satellite TV provider, has its own MVNO solution which it launched at the beginning of July 2008. In the middle of June Cyfrowy Polsat managed to connect its network to PTK Centertel and Polkomtel’s networks. The new virtual network will be based on the infrastructure made available by PTC (the Era network operator). Cyfrowy Polsat mobile has its own access code, ‘PL12’, network meeting points, interconnect agreements, a billing system, and CRM. As a TV operator, Cyfrowy Polsat reaches 2.2m households and 7.5m Poles.

Inteligo Bank
Inteligo Financial Services S.A. offers online banking. The company was incorporated in 2000 and is based in Warszawa, Poland. Inteligo Financial Services S.A. operates as a subsidiary of Powszechna Kasa Oszczednosci Bank Polski SA. Inteligo Bank has created an MVNO Subsidiary in co-operation with PTC. Inteligo Financial Services (IFS), technological arm of the PKO BP Group, intends to win 200,000 users. The offer will be directed at the 2.5m electronic banking customer group. IFS assumes it will be able to convince 10% of existing customers to join its new mobile brand. The IFS president believes such a number of users to be profitable and denies that this project is merely an Inteligo Bank loyalty scheme, and states it is meant to yield profit. PTC will gain 1,000 Inteligo points of sale and hopes to refocus on the existing Inteligo customers.

Telepin mobi
Mediatel has a mobile telephony services under the brand name of ‘Telepin mobi’. The new virtual network operator (MVNO) is based on PTK Centertel’s infrastructure. The product is designed for foreigners who want to cheap calls to their home countries. However for cheap calls customers must dial an access number which is restricted to landlines (and of course mobile phones in RPP countries) only. The “direct-dial” international rates are not very competitive. Recently, mobile operator Centernet , which is owned by the NFI Midas investment fund, has signed a conditional agreement to purchase selected components of Elterix, a subsidiary of Mediatel. The contract concerns the rights to the Telepin brand. The total value of the agreement is PLN 3m (€719,100). The deal will enable Centernet to strengthen its position as a mobile service provider on the Polish market.

Biedronka, a discount retailer, rolled out sales of start-up packages for its own mobile virtual network under the tuBiedronka brand name. The chain is moving into the MVNO market in cooperation with Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa. Its number prefix is 727. The tuBiedronka offer includes three packages with mobile phones and a start-up SIM card with credits allowing clients to make a two-minute phone call or send seven text messages. Recently tuBiedronka announced that they had acquired 70,000 subscribers to their service.

wRodzinie is a Seniors based MVNO service for the elderly, using simple handsets designed for the segment. wRodzinie telephony consistent of a consortium of company; Bonum Sp. z oo in Warsaw, Multi-Channel Marketing Group Sp. z oo in Gdańsk and the Lux Veritatis Foundation in Warsaw and CenterNet. In late 2010, the Lux Veritatis Foundation withdrew its support for the service, and Centernet has taken over the responsibilities of Lux.

GaduAIR
GG Network operates under the brand name GaduAIR. The new offer is integrated with other services, including the popular gadu-gadu. In March 2008, Naspers acquired Tradus (formerly QXL and listed on the London Stock Exchange), which provides an online auction platform and internet portals in Eastern Europe. The company owns Allegro.pl, which is the leading online auction site in Poland. At £946 million, this acquisition represents Naspers’ largest acquisition to date.

Survey results indicate a high degree of telecommunications services saturation. A decisive majority of respondents possess a telephone (94,4%), regardless of technology used for this purpose. 32,6% of respondents posses both a fixed and mobile telephone. Slightly over half of those interviewed use only a mobile phone. Every tenth person possesses only a fixed phone. Only 5,6% of survey participants do not possess any phone.

Conclusions on institutional clients
Survey results indicate that a majority of businesses interviewed (60,3%) use both fixed and mobile phones. A significantly lower percentage of companies use only a fixed phone (8,3%) or only a mobile phone (31,5%).
