A new study published by Juniper investigating the Mobile TV and Video market projects that by 2017, revenues from streaming and download services on mobile and tablet devices will reach $9.5 billion.
That’s double the revenue ($4.5 billion) expected this year.
According to Juniper, this will be as a result of the maturation of the market for streaming subscription services and pay-per-title content, which will see new business models develop for smartphone and tablet users.
Mobile & Tablet TV & Video: Content, Broadcast & OTT Strategies 2013–2017 details how successful subscription providers have been able to realise large revenues to date, and how their strategies will generate additional revenues over the next five years.
“In order to be truly successful in the future,” says report author Sian Rowlands, “I think we will see players emerge who are prioritizing their customers’ preferences; they will do this by utilizing cloud technology, allowing consumers to resume playback on different devices, and enabling offline viewing.”
