Vietnam’s Regulator MIC revokes Indochina Telecom’s MVNO licence

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has cancelled the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) licence of Indochina Telecom (also known as Dong Duong Telecom), after the company failed to roll out commercial services.

Indochina Telecom was awarded a licence allowing it to operate as an MVNO in August 2009. At that time, the firm said that it planned to share 3G network facilities with military-owned Viettel and launch services in 1Q10.

According to a report published by Viet Nam News, and an article published on MIC website, they sent a letter of ultimatum to Indochina Telecom and two other licensees, warning the firms that they would lose their concessions if they failed to provide a timeframe for when they expected to begin operations.

A second MVNO licence was awarded to state-owned VTC Telecom in June 2010, but like Indochina Telecom, the operator has not gone on to launch mobile services.
