Alcatel has announced the launch of a new budget phone in the One Touch range that features large buttons and an emergency call key presumably aimed at older customers, which is being marketed and sold by UK MVNO Virgin Mobile and Phones4U
The Alcatel One Touch 282 is a slim candy bar mobile phone that is aimed at people who “don’t want a complicated Android device”.
The phone features an emergency call key, voice calendar, clear colour display and large keys for easy and simple use. It also comes with a built-in torch, FM radio and a fixed charging cradle.
Alcatel said that the phone will be “perfect for any talk and text user”, but from the feature-set it appears that the handset is primarily intended for senior mobile users.
This also follows the announcement of the Vodafone 155 handset, which includes an SOS button on the rear that automatically sends an emergency message to four designated contacts.
“We have always tried to offer something for everyone, from an entry level talk and text device to an Android smartphone,” said William Paterson, the UK and Ireland country director at Alcatel.
“The Alcatel One Touch 282 is a simple to use, affordable and would be perfect for any talk and text user.”
It is being marketed as an ‘accessible’ device and is priced £29.99 on prepay and free on contracts starting from £7.50. The device features an emergency call key that can be programmed with four contacts, a voice activated calendar and large keys for easy use.
