SOURCE Comisión del Mercado de las TelecomunicacionesSpain added 258,909 mobile lines in December, ending the month with a total mobile base of 56.18 million users, up by 2.8% over the same month of 2010.
Spain added over 1.5 million new mobile customers in 2011, according to a report by Spanish regulator CMT. Vodafone added nearly 119,450 net lines in December, Movistar saw 91,140 net additions, Yoigo added 42,140 users, and the MVNOs attracted d 29,300 subscribers. Orange shed around 23,120 users in the month.
The M2M sector went up by 17.9% over the same period last year, to over 2.51 million lines. The growth of the M2M sector brings the total number of mobile lines to over 58.70 million.
Spain ported around 528,933 mobile phone numbers in December, up by 4.3% versus the same period of 2010.
Yoigo, the MVNOs, and Orange saw a positive balance in portability, while Movistar and Vodafone registered a negative balance.
Yoigo won 3,645 net users, the MVNOs added 19,852 users, Orange won 22,694 ported customers.
Vodafone lost 13,354 customers, and Movistar shed 32,837 users in the month. Spanish operators added 43,874 broadband users in December.
Spain ended December with a total base of 11.14 million broadband lines, up by 5% year-on-year and a penetration of over 24.2 lines per 100 inhabitants.
The number of DSL lines rose by 34,611 connections over the same period of 2010, reaching a total of 8.92 million lines at the end of December. The overall number of fixed lines decreased by 38,213, to 19.36 million lines at the end of December.
Fixed penetration decreased to 42 lines per 100 inhabitants in December 2011, versus 43 percent in the year-earlier month. Around 155,830 fixed numbers were ported in December 2011, down by 23.2% from 202,984 fixed numbers ported in December 2010.
