HAS UK MVNO alpha Mobile Gone Bust?

In June, 2011 a new MVNO was launched in the UK called AlphaMobile. Recently we have been informed that alpha Mobile may have closed down just after seven months due to very poor take up.In a brief statement on their website, the company stated “It is with great regret that the company Onyx Innovation UK Ltd trading as Alpha Mobile has ceased to trade and will shortly be put into liquidation.”
This is becoming typical in the UK, we have new MVNO’s launching in the Market without a solid Distribution Plan, not enough finance, and unfortunately they all want to target the ethnic market. The Ethnic market is overcrowded with GT Mobile, Lebara, LycaMobile, Now Mobile & Vectone Mobile being the Market leaders, with strong Distribution agreements, significant marketing budgets and manpower on payroll. Each of these MVNOs have put in 1000s of hours of developing the brand, with Capital Investment in Airtime and they offer Discounted Rates that any new player wanting to enter into the market will struggle to even make a dent.
Do we need a new UK MVNO focusing on the Ethnic Market? In reality, no, however I have seen new players emerge out of nowhere, so only time will tell. In the meantime alphaMobile has not confirmed if they have gone bust, but we suspect that they have.
