Samart Corporation is bullish on its revenue growing by 25% this year to 27.5 billion baht, fuelled by recurring revenues from state projects along with mobile phone and digital content services.
The communications equipment maker expects accelerated net profit growth of 70% to one billion baht for the first time this year, said president Watchai Vilailuck.
“Our consolidated revenue will top 30 billion baht by 2013, helped by the group’s new synergy strategy,” he said.
Mr Watchai said Samart, through subsidiary U-Trans Co, is looking to invest in Burma and Laos this year in power plants and air traffic services to expand its footprint overseas. The company now provides air traffic and mobile services in Cambodia, Laos and Malaysia.
It also expects to conclude an acquisition deal worth one billion baht to take over a telecom-related business within 30 days, which would create a new long-term revenue stream.
For 2011, Samart expects to report a rise of 45% in revenue to 22 billion baht, with net profit growing 45% from 628 million in 2010. He said in 2011, revenue is expected to miss its target of 25 billion but net profit will exceed expectations.
Mr Watchai is confident Samart will achieve its sales target this year because of its synergy strategy.
Lower sales were attributed to a state network expansion deal where TOT plans to increase its 3G base stations from 500 to 5,000 in its second phase this year. The company hopes to provide 3G wireless broadband services for TOT under a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement.
“We expect our 3G customers to surge to one million by the end of this year, surpassing our break-even point of 700,000 users, thanks to the enterprise’s plan to increase the number of its 3G base stations from 500 to 3,000 next month,” he said.
Average revenue per MVNO user is expected to increase from 160 baht to 200 baht per user. Samart had 200,000 users last year, representing 60% of its total sales.
Mr Watchai said Samart i-Mobile, the handset flagship, is repositioning itself from a mobile handset vendor to a content and MVNO service provider.
“We expect to sell up to 3.5 million handsets this year, up from 3 million last year, thanks to our marketing efforts to migrate to 3G,” he said.
Samart i-Mobile projects revenue of 9 billion baht this year, up from 7 billion last year.
Samart Telcoms, the group’s fastest-growing business unit, expects revenue to increase 60% to 15 billion baht this year, Mr Watchai added.
