Japanese trading company 丸紅株式会社 / Marubeni will enter the mobile market via a joint venture with Japan Communications.
The companies will establish the joint venture around February next year by spinning off Japan Communications‘ data communications operations.
Marubeni will acquire a 60% stake in the spun-off entity for around JPY 500 million, the Nikkei reports. The joint venture will provide data services for personal computers and tablets as a MVNO using NTT Docomo’s network.
Marubeni is considering combining the MVNO services with a range of network-related services offered by Marubeni Access Solutions.
The JV is also expected to offer machine-to-machine services.
