Academic Mobile
A new Belgium MVNO was introduced this week and is called Academic Mobile a new mobile brand for Signpost België bvba, the Internet company which supplys Internet Solutions via fixed line and Hardware and Software for students and teachers at affordable rates. The mobile brand offers two products: mobile calls & text messages and mobile data solutions via a tablet PC or laptop. The new MVNO is using BASE‘s network as the underlying MNO.Mobile calls and SMS
There are two cards available: a prepaid card and a subscription based service. With prepaid customers can recharge for an amount of €5, €10, €20 or €50while for postpaid monthly subscription fees start at €10 (71 minutes or 111 SMS) or €20 (142 minus 222 or SMS).Academic calls and text messages to other “on-net mobile customers” is billed at €0.05 per SMS. To landlines and other mobile numbers call costs €0.14. A text message to other networks will cost €0.09. For the subscribers, there is no minimum subscription period, and no contracture activation fee. There are no restrictions on who can take the subscription.
Academic mobile is suddenly a little more interesting than simyo, the mobile brand of BASE. With SMS billed at €0.09 and calls to “on-net” billed at €0.15 and calls to all mobile networks at €0.20, is much more expensive than Academic Mobile, however simyo is still cheaper to make calls to fixed lines.

For the mobile surfers Academic mobile subscription – no contract or activation fee at a subscription cost of €19 p/mnth, with the first three months billed at €12.50 p/mnth, for 2 GB data cap with network speed of up to 7.2 Mbps.
