Another channel opens up for smartphones running Google’s OS.

Bloomberg reported a few days ago that Cox, the nation’s third largest cable operator, will roll out a “Quad-play” wireless service option to its customers in limited markets. The wireless service will be provided on a Sprint (S) MVNOnetwork and start as a $39.99 service add on.

Competitors Comcast (CMCSK) and Time Warner (TWX) Cable use Clearwire‘s so-called 4G network to sell data-only wireless service in select markets.

Cox will sell full Android smartphones. Handsets will include the HTC Desire, Motorola Milestone (rebadged Droid) and LG Axis as part of the offering.

The initial rollout begins today in Orange County, California; Omaha, Nebraska; and Hampton Roads, Virginia.

While the billing might not be as simple as a Quad play plan, Virgin (as another Sprint MVNO) sells an Android device on a $25/month pre-paid plan.
