German consumers have to pay up to EUR 29.65 if they do not return their Sim card after ending a contract or prepaid service with operators and service providers, according to a survey among 25 mobile service providers and operators by the North Rhine Westphalia chapter of the German federal consumer organisation Vzbw. The survey found that ten providers and or operators don’t care what customers do with their old Sims. At the same time, eight providers have clauses in their general contract conditions that oblige consumers to return their Sims or pay a certain sum. For ex-Talkline customers, the sum is EUR 9.97 and for six mobile service providers using the services of the Drillisch Group, the sum is EUR 29.65. The sum is added to last bill and customers have a certain period (varying between 14 and 21 days) to return the Sim and receiving their money back.
