SOURCE: ARCEPARCEP, the French Regulator has released its monthly stats and says the country has 62.59 million mobile customers at end of third quarter.
The number of mobile phone customers in France rose in the third quarter of 2010, according to data published Thursday by the country’s telecommunications regulator Arcep.
- At the end of September, there were 62.59 million mobile clients in France, 635,7000 more than at the end of June. The number of customers was up 4.9% from the previous year.
- The penetration rate, or the percentage of the population using a mobile phone, rose to 97% from 96% in the second quarter.
- The last three months of a year is generally the strongest quarter in terms of mobile client additions.
- In metropolitan France, which excludes overseas departments and territories, the market share of mobile virtual network operators, or MVNOs, rose slightly to 6.34% from 6.32% at the end of June.
MVNOs rent network capacity from the country’s three big carriers; France Telecom SA‘s Orange, Vivendi SA‘s SFR and Bouygues SA’s Bouygues Telecom.
Internet operator Iliad at the start of this year was awarded France’s fourth third-generation, or 3G, license and is expected to launch mobile services in 2012.
