The Dutch social network HYVES is expanding its services to the mobile phone. From Monday, the company offers in collaboration with T-Mobile have a phone with which Hyves users can make free calls and SMS.
The postpaid subscription of 8.75 euros per month, gives users unlimited access to mobile Internet, subject to fair use policy. Additionally, customers who have a HYVES profile at no extra cost every month and one thousand minutes, or a thousand SMS messages to send to other HYVES users who also have a subscription to HYVES Mobile.
The service may provide Hyves with an extra edge in competition compared to other social networks like Facebook. ”We see the use of HYVES on the mobile phone as a greatly Value Add. We see mobile phone social networks as the major competitor for the future. On those trends, we try to play alongside our existing communication with calls and text messages on offer,”says a spokesperson for HYVES.
The spokesman believes that the possibility of free calls to other HYVES users will get enough people to switch to HYVES Mobile. By using T-Mobile‘s network and Aspider Solutions (MVNE), (providing Helpdesk & Billing Solutions) the consumers will have a clear indication who is calling HYVES Mobile Users, and hopefully this will also encourage each other to move, he expects. ”We will try to make use of all our social and viral features.”
Despite the emergence of networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn, HYVES is still the biggest social network in the Netherlands. It welcomes 7.9 million unique users each month via the Internet and another 1.5 million users via mobile phone.
